WELLCOME TO FINCA SILSIA
Finca Silsia was built next to a fast flowing river in the Sierra d'Alfàbia. A place of magical reminiscences, its origins go back to the Andalus period of Majorca (10th and 11th centuries) when it was an important Berber settlement thanks to an ingenious system of hydraulic system channels that turned the lands next to the river into an area of intensive irrigation, enabling several Muslim farm settlements or alquerías to develop. Together they formed the al-Arusa district, which in turn gave its name to the qanat, or underground constructions for water supplies, in the higher part of the valley. From there, taking advantage of the gradient of the river bed, water was rushed down to power the mills and fill reservoirs all year round. The historical roots of Finca Silsia can be found in the Andalus alquería of Califa which, following the Christian conquest of 1229, formed part of the spoils handed to a Catalan nobleman by King Jaume I. During the 17th century the houses were extended, the almazara, or oil mill, was built, and the farming was improved, making it one of the most productive farms in the valley. Recently the Finca has been restored to its former glory.
